All in the Family: The Realignment of American Democracy since the 1960s
In the last half century of American politics, the family has been a battleground where major consequential concepts such as heterosexuality, patriotism, and breadwinner have been at stake. What happens when we think about "the family" as an organizing framework for politics? How do we think about what we might call "sexual citizenship" in that context? This workshop will involve a broad discussion of the family and American politics since the 1960s and the role that gay and lesbian, LGBT, and queer people and activists have played in those politics. Discussion and Q&A.
